ACC Chairman Orders Arrest, Suspensions in Jashore Mass Hearing
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recently held a mass hearing in Jashore, led by its chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen. The event, chaired by deputy commissioner Azaharul Islam, addressed numerous complaints from service seekers and resulted in swift actions against several officials.
ACC chairman Abdul Momen ordered the arrest of Sohel, suspected of facilitating bribery for heavy category driver's licenses. The responsibility for this arrest remains unclear. Meanwhile, Alamgir, an office assistant at Jashore district council, was suspended for accepting a bribe from a client. The mass hearing also saw immediate actions taken against other officials and employees from various organizations.
A total of 75 complaints were heard, involving 37 government, semi-government, autonomous, and financial institutions. One such complaint alleged that the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority took a bribe of Tk 12,000 for a heavy category driving license through a broker named Sohel. In response, Abdul Momen ordered the suspension of a hospital employee, Pabitra Kumar, for mistreating a child and directed hospital authorities to improve patient care and diet quality.
The ACC's mass hearing in Jashore led to the suspension of several officials and employees accused of corruption and mismanagement. The event highlighted the commission's commitment to addressing service seekers' issues and maintaining transparency in government operations.
