Absa Bank finds itself entangled in a battle for the Tug of War throne, thanks to the courageous actions of Andenga.
Absa Bank Ladies Tug of War Team on Track for Fourth Consecutive Interbank Games Title
The Absa Bank Kenya ladies tug of war team is currently dominating the 39th Interbank Games in Nairobi, with a strong chance of winning their fourth consecutive title. The team, led by captain Christine Andenga, has so far clinched six victories in the tournament, beating Equity, Stanbic, Prime Bank, DTB, and CBK with a 2-0 margin each.
The team's success is not a surprise, given their active participation in various tug of war leagues in the capital this season. They have also engaged in friendly matches each month to test their skills, and sought the services of professional coaches from the General Service Unit (GSU), known for their excellence in the tug of war game across the country.
According to Andenga, tug of war is a skill-based game, not just about physical strength. She explained that the team needs to master quick movements and capitalize on opponents' shortcomings. Andenga described tug of war as a game that keeps evolving.
Employees at Absa Bank have been subdivided into kayas or small tribes or houses at the workplace to keep track of each other and be accountable for each other's physical and mental well-being. This team spirit, coupled with the proper facilitation from their employer, who promotes a wellness culture that includes sports, has made the Absa Bank ladies tug of war team peerless.
Andenga attributes the team's dominance in the sport to discipline and consistency. She has led the team flawlessly throughout the tournament, and the team is so strong that even I&M Bank, whom they are soon to face, is considered unlikely to stop them. The team is scheduled to face I&M Bank last evening (Monday).
Andenga, who is also the athletics captain of the team, mentioned that they worked on their skills and techniques to be perfect in all departments ahead of this year's Interbank Games. The Interbank Games, for which the team is the defending champion, is an annual banking showpiece.
The Absa Bank ladies tug of war team is on course to sealing a fourth successive title in the 39th edition of the Interbank Games in Nairobi.
