Abkhazia halts train services after storms damage critical railway tracks
Heavy storms have struck Abkhazia's Gagra District, causing severe erosion to the railway bed. As a result, train services in the area have been temporarily suspended to ensure passenger safety.
The damage has forced authorities to halt all train traffic, including the Dioscuria electric service. Passengers travelling on the Moscow–Sukhum route have been affected, with trains stopping at Tsandrypsh Station. From there, travellers are transferring to buses to complete their journeys.
Emergency repair teams from Abkhazian Railway (AZhD) are now working to fix the storm's impact. Their efforts focus on restoring the damaged infrastructure so that services can resume as soon as possible.
Until repairs are finished, train operations in the region will remain suspended. Passengers are being directed to alternative road transport to reach their destinations. The timeline for full service restoration has not yet been announced.
