Emerging negotiations suggest midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure is on the brink of joining the growing roster of ex-Premier League stars at Neom, the Saudi football club.

Abdoulaye Doucoure in advanced discussions to join Neom, the latest former Premier League player to potentially join the Saudi club.

In a significant move for the Saudi Pro League, former Everton midfielder Aboulaye Doucouré has officially signed with Neom SC, a newly promoted club, on a free transfer. The Frenchman has agreed to a one-year deal with an option to extend, as Neom continues to build a squad fit for the big league.

Doucouré, who played a crucial role in Everton's survival fights over the last few seasons, becomes the latest Premier League star to join the Saudi Pro League. Since Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr in 2023, the league has gained increased attention from top-tier players.

Neom, backed by Saudi megabucks, is linked to the Kingdom's massive "smart city" project. The club is now under the management of French manager Christophe Galtier, who aims to raise Neom's competitive level quickly. Alongside Doucouré, Neom has also signed notable players such as Nathan Zézé, Alexandre Lacazette, Marcin Bulka, and activated Saïd Benrahma's transfer.

The signing of Doucouré reflects Neom’s strategy of acquiring experienced talent to boost their profile and performance in their debut Saudi Pro League season. Since his exit from Goodison Park this summer, Doucouré has been training privately and staying match-fit, waiting for the right opportunity. The move to Neom is tempting both financially and professionally, with Doucouré impressed by their project.

Doucouré, a fan favourite for his engine and tough tackles, made over 100 appearances for Everton. He scored the goal that secured Everton's Premier League status in 2023. Despite receiving other offers, the Saudi offer proved to be the most attractive.

As Neom continues to strengthen their squad, they are also reportedly interested in signing Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez. With these high-profile signings, Neom SC is poised to make a strong impact in the Saudi Pro League.

Doucouré's move to Neom SC, following Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Al Nassr, highlights an escalating trend of European football stars joining the Saudi Pro League. Neom's ambitious project, showcased by their acquisitions of players like Doucouré, Zézé, Lacazette, Bulka, and Benrahma, aims to elevate their competitive level in the European-leagues style gameplay.
