ABCUSD Hosts Second Year of Arts, Media, and Entertainment Film Festival, Showcasing Student's Cinematic Talent

Whitney High School and ABC Unified School District Celebrate Diversity and Student Achievement

Whitney High School, located in the ABC Unified School District, is making headlines for its commitment to fostering diversity and celebrating student achievements. The school, which caters to students from grades 7-12, has recently been named the top middle school in California by U.S. News.

In addition to its academic success, the district is also taking strides to nurture creativity and talent among its students. The ABCUSD Career Technical Education (CTE) Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway is at the forefront of this initiative.

The pathway is hosting the 2nd Annual ABCUSD Film Festival on April 16, 2025, at Whitney High School. This event promises to be an exciting showcase of student-created short films, offering a red carpet experience, film college representatives, guest speakers, and community tables. The festival will also recognise students with AME Awards for outstanding student-produced films.

Moreover, the ABC Education Foundation is sponsoring the first annual Diversity Art Contest for K-12 students in the ABC Unified School District. This contest encourages students to create and submit an original piece of artwork on a single 8 x 11 sheet of paper, with the theme being images of what diversity means.

Superintendent Mary Sieu is thrilled about the district's rise in student achievement, as confirmed by the release of the latest California Standards Test results. She believes that the ABCUSD CTE Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway plays a significant role in this success, providing students with hands-on experiences and opportunities to develop skills for future success in creative industries.

If you're an interested student filmmaker, remember to submit your films by March 28, 2025, through the official website: abcusd.info/2025FilmFestival. For more detailed information, it's recommended to check the official ABCUSD website or contact their administrative offices directly.
