ABC Promotes Golden Bachelor Season 2 with Charming Advertisements, Yet Mel Owens' Remarks about Eliminating Women Over 60 Linger

The second season of The Golden Bachelor is set to air on ABC News on September 24, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET, with Mel Owens as the leading man. The show, which is part of the popular "Bachelor Nation" franchise, will be available for streaming the day after its TV premiere with a Hulu subscription.

Mel Owens, who is 66 years old, has generated controversy over the summer following ageist comments he made about women on the show during an interview on the "In the Trenches" podcast. His comments have sparked a wave of criticism, with host Jesse Palmer and fans calling on him to "do better." The co-hosts of The View have also weighed in on the issue.

Despite the controversy, the promotion for Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor does not hint at anything going wrong. ABC is promoting the season during commercial breaks, including during Dancing with the Stars. The women of the show, who range in age from 58 to 77, are reportedly going to react on-screen to Owens' ageist comments.

Most of the women in the season are in their low-to-mid 60s, with the youngest being 58 years old and the oldest being 77. The age range of the 23 women vying for Owens' heart is a departure from the traditionally younger casts of previous seasons.

The premiere of The Golden Bachelor Season 2 marks a return to primetime for "Bachelor Nation" in the 2025 TV schedule. However, the role of the Golden Bachelor in the second season, as well as how ABC plans to handle Owens' statements regarding age restrictions for women on the show, remains unclear.

The controversy surrounding Owens' ageist comments continues, with many questioning whether the show is doing enough to address the issue. This comes after the previous season's leading man, Gerry Turner, ended his search for love on the show in divorce.

As the premiere date approaches, fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see how The Golden Bachelor handles the controversy and whether the show can navigate this challenging situation.
