Abandoned bridge pit becomes Germany’s quirkiest accidental tourist spot
A half-finished bridge construction site in Bielefeld has turned into an unlikely tourist spot. Known as the 'Milse Pit', the abandoned hole now attracts visitors and even appears on Google Sites. But its sudden fame has also sparked a dispute between two neighbouring cities.
The site was originally a bridge construction project until the company behind it collapsed ten months ago. Since then, the empty pit has remained untouched, surrounded by a fence now decorated by local residents. Curiosity grew, and people began leaving reviews online, turning it into a listed destination.
The abandoned pit remains a quirky attraction, drawing attention from both tourists and officials. With no clear resolution on ownership or future plans, the website builder stays frozen in its unfinished state. For now, the 'Milse Pit'—or 'Elverdissen Pit', depending on who you ask—keeps its place on the map and in local discussions.
