Aargau’s exporters celebrate as U.S. slashes tariffs from 39% to 15%
Aargau's exports to the U.S. have received a boost with a significant tariff reduction. The region's businesses, which previously grappled with 'absurdly high' tariffs of 39 percent, will now operate under a 15 percent rate. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy.
The Aargau Chamber of Commerce (AIHK) has welcomed the news, highlighting that 23 percent of Aargau's exports are destined for the U.S. Many local industrial and trading companies engaged in U.S. exports will benefit from this tariff relief. The AIHK also praised the agreement for ending the unequal treatment of Swiss companies compared to their EU counterparts.
While the tariff reduction is positive, the AIHK acknowledges that duties will continue to impact the economy. Business leaders in Aargau have welcomed the joint declaration by Switzerland and the U.S., expressing satisfaction with the progress made in reducing tariffs.
The tariff reduction from 39 percent to 15 percent is a significant step forward for Aargau's export-oriented firms. The Aargau Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AIHK) views this as a positive signal, although it acknowledges that duties will still have an influence on the local economy.
