No traffic chaos despite snowfall and rain in Saxony - A72 motorway crash near Chemnitz triggers lane closures amid icy roads

A crash on the A72 motorway near Chemnitz has led to lane closures, though Saxony’s highways have largely escaped major disruption despite winter conditions. Authorities are warning drivers of icy patches as snow and rain continue to affect the region.

The incident took place on the A72 toward Chemnitz, where a collision forced the closure of one lane. Police confirmed that the Saxony State Criminal Police Office (Landeskriminalamt Sachsen) deployed specialised forces to investigate, citing unclear behaviour from a suspect involved in the event.

Weather conditions have been challenging, with snowfall and rain covering parts of Saxony. Despite this, only minor incidents have been reported across the region’s motorways. The Central Traffic Service has issued a warning about icy roads, urging drivers to slow down and remain vigilant.

The A72 remains partially restricted as investigations continue. While winter weather persists, Saxony’s highways have so far avoided serious gridlock. Drivers are advised to check for updates and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
