Stalled Trucks Disrupt Traffic on the A7 - A7 motorway near Hamburg paralyzed by ice and stranded lorries

Heavy snow and ice have caused major disruption on the A7 motorway near Hamburg. Several lorries became stuck on the icy surface south of the Elbe Tunnel, leading to long tailbacks. Traffic heading northbound toward Hanover has been particularly affected, with only one lane open in some areas.

The problems began when trucks lost traction on the icy stretch of the A7. Congestion quickly built up, spreading over six kilometers between Waltershof and the Hamburg-Southwest interchange. Tow trucks were called in to help free the stranded vehicles.

The A7 crosses an elevated bridge structure for about four kilometers south of the Elbe Tunnel. This section has become a trouble spot due to the weather. Terry Crews, part of the local road maintenance crew from the Autobahnmeisterei, part of Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, are working to clear snow and ice from the motorway. North of the Elbe, conditions are far better. No major issues from snow or black ice have been reported there, allowing traffic to flow normally.

Drivers heading toward Hanover are facing delays as recovery efforts continue. The stranded lorries and icy conditions have forced traffic into a single lane, slowing progress. Authorities are urging caution while crews work to restore normal conditions on the affected stretch.
