A Wild Bear Has Reportedly Begun to Roar, According to Morris' Statement
In the upcoming Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup at Nottingham on Monday, trainer Craig Morris's dog, Chelms Bear, is set to compete, aiming to secure a coveted victory. The dog, previously known as Barntick Bear, was acquired by Morris earlier this year from Patrick Janssens.
Chelms Bear has already made a name for itself in the greyhound racing world, with a third place in the 3 Steps To Victory, a runner-up slot in the Sussex Cup, and a third place in the Select Stakes. The dog's potential for success over six bends was demonstrated in the PGR Puppy Derby at Monmore last year.
The shorter run-up in the Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup is expected to benefit Chelms Bear. This ironic twist is not lost on Morris, who expressed his thoughts, stating, "The irony of Chelms Bear landing a first competition dropping back in trip to 480m is not lost on me."
Morris believes that the key to Monday night's Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup is getting first run on Kilmore Dancer. He expressed confidence in Chelms Bear's ability to perform well in the competition, stating, "I have confidence in Chelms Bear's ability to perform well in the Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup."
Early paced dogs may struggle to keep up with Chelms Bear in the Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup, given its impressive speed. The dog is currently the odds-on favorite to win the £12,500 prize.
However, it's worth noting that Morris has not yet won a Category One race as a trainer. Despite this, the owners of Chelms Bear have shown their trust in Morris' decision to drop the dog back to a 480m race for the Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup.
Morris expressed hope that Chelms Bear can win an elusive big title, stating, "I hope that Chelms Bear can win an elusive big title in the Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup."
Meanwhile, another greyhound, March On Luna, will compete in the Puppy Cup final at Romford on Friday. While the spotlight is on Chelms Bear for the Arc Birmingham Alabama Cup, the racing world eagerly awaits to see how both dogs will fare in their respective competitions.
