A Week of Art and Activism Marks International Women's Day 2026 in Aschaffenburg

The Equal Opportunities Office of the Aschaffenburg District Administration marked International Women's Day 2026 with a week-long campaign. Events ranged from art exhibitions to discussions, all aimed at promoting gender equality and combating violence. One highlight was the 40th anniversary of the Aschaffenburg Women's Hearing, held on March 20. The campaign, titled Around International Women's Day, featured a packed schedule. A vernissage kicked off the programme, followed by a charity concert, a feminist literary evening, a film discussion, and a reading. The literary event, organised in partnership with neighbouring districts and a city, drew 55 participants.

Before the campaign began, the district installed its ninth red bench in Großostheim's Ringheim Citizens' Park. These benches serve as public reminders of domestic and sexualised violence against women, each bearing support resources for those affected. The 40th Aschaffenburg Women's Hearing took place on March 20, co-moderated by the district's Equal Opportunities Officer, Caroline Ruck. The event reinforced demands for self-determination, an end to violence, and true gender equality. Attendees also reviewed the group's past successes and reaffirmed their commitment to a fairer future. Throughout the week, the district promoted the campaign's activities on its social media channels, encouraging wider participation.

The 2026 campaign brought together art, discussion, and activism under one theme. Nine red benches now stand across the district, each symbolising ongoing efforts against gender-based violence. Organisers hope the events will inspire further action toward equality in the region.
