Headline: Former DOJ Employee Faces Felony Charges for Assaulting CBP Agent with Submarine Sandwich
A 37-year-old man, Sean Charles Dunn, has found himself in hot water after a viral video showed him throwing a submarine sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent in Washington, D.C. The incident, which occurred in northwest Washington on Sunday, has led to Dunn being charged with felony assault on a federal officer.
Dunn, who was employed at the Department of Justice (DOJ) as an international affairs specialist in the criminal division, allegedly yelled profanities and hostility towards the agent before forcefully throwing the sandwich at him. The officer, identified as Gregory Lairmore, was hit in the chest by the sandwich. Dunn attempted to flee but was arrested and later admitted to the act during processing.
Following the incident, Dunn's employment at the DOJ was terminated. The DOJ, represented by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro in Washington, D.C., has taken the matter seriously, charging Dunn with felony assault on a federal officer. Pirro stated publicly that Dunn "thought it was funny" but now faces serious legal consequences, emphasizing strong backing for law enforcement officers.
This incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in D.C. due to President Trump’s recent deployment of additional federal law enforcement and National Guard troops to the city. Protesters have already begun organizing against the Trump administration's agenda. However, data shows that crime in the city is not growing, despite President Trump's claims.
Pirro has stated that they are going to back the police to the hilt in the case of Dunn. The charge against Dunn for assaulting a police officer is a felony and carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail, along with fines. Dunn has reportedly expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that he no longer finds the situation funny due to the felony charge.
