Major Traffic Snafu: Three Hefty Trucks Crash in Russia's Far East

Last week, the traffic police in Lesozavodsk, Primorye Krai, are still piecing together the details of a distressing accident involving a young pedestrian and three heavy trucks. The mishap left the city's bustling streets in disarray, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs' press service.

The unfortunate incident took place on Komsomolskaya Street. Initially, it was determined that a 54-year-old woman, behind the wheel of a Suzuki SX4, neglected to yield to a 13-year-old crossing pedestrian while turning left within a "Residential Area" zone.

"The outcome of the collision inflicted a range of injuries on the hapless child," the police reported.

In a bid to alleviate the boy's suffering, the woman herself whisked him off to the central city hospital's emergency room, where he was quickly admitted to the trauma department.

In accordance with traffic police reports, the woman boasts 14 years of driving expertise, yet has managed to maintain a clean slate in terms of previous traffic offenses. No suspicious signs of intoxication were discerned at the time of the accident either.

The woman now finds herself embroiled in an administrative investigation under Article 12.24 of the RF CoA ("Violation of traffic rules resulting in bodily injury"). The authorities are also gathering materials under Articles 12.27 and 12.28 of the RF CoA. Necessary expert examinations have been commissioned.

Should the results be unfavorable, a decision will be made in due course, adhering to established protocols.

In the same vein, another collision transpired in Vladivostok, where a passenger bus inexplicably plowed into a popular auto cafe and two stationary cars. Meanwhile, a fleeing driver struck a pedestrian in Nakhodka.

Other unsettling incidents in the area involve a pile-up involving three heavy trucks that paralyzed traffic near Ussuriysk, and a reckless driver at the helm of a Lexus causing havoc with a bus and a light vehicle in Ussuriysk.

Overall, while Primorye Krai doesn't provide specific traffic laws and penalties, Russia's federal traffic laws hold sway across the nation. In the case of bodily injury liability in Russian traffic accidents, fines and driver's license suspensions could be levied, based on the severity of the injuries sustained.

For instance, causing "light harm" to health (short-term disability up to 21 days) can result in fines of 2,500–5,000 rubles and driver’s license suspension for 1–1.5 years. In scenarios where "moderate harm" (long-term disability not deemed life-threatening) has been inflicted, harsher penalties may apply, with fines ranging from 10,000–25,000 rubles and license suspension for 1.5–2 years. In more severe instances, criminal liability could potentially ensue.
