Bad Omens, the American metalcore band known for their signature sound and captivating performances, have announced the release of a new single titled "Specter". This marks the band's first new music since their 2022 album The Death of Peace of Mind and its 2024 deluxe edition.

The announcement came on August 8, 2025, accompanied by a cinematic music video directed by frontman Noah Sebastian and collaborator Nico. The video, which explores themes of loss, betrayal, and the supernatural, features actor Ryan Hurst, known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead.

The teaser videos posted by Bad Omens ahead of the announcement on August 8 had created tension and anticipation among fans, with the band's frontman, Sebastian, hinting at the direction their new music might take. In these videos, Hurst's character attempts to engage a child hiding under a white bedsheet with cut-out eyeholes, but receives limited responses.

The new single is expected to showcase Bad Omens' evolving sound, combining delicate atmospheric elements with passionate, hard-hitting choruses and otherworldly electronic flourishes that add dynamic layers to the song. This suggests a continuation of their signature metalcore style with innovative musical directions.

Sebastian has emphasized that this does not imply that Bad Omens will release a bubblegum pop record. He stated that he doesn't think people think that because it's a metalhead thing to label anything catchy or polished as pop.

The band’s return builds on their significant prior success, including a gold-certified album and multiple high-streaming singles. Fans can expect more Bad Omens news in the near future, as the anticipation for new music continues to grow.

In September 2024, photos posted on Bad Omens' social media accounts revealed that they were at work in a recording studio. During an appearance at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the frontman mentioned being tired from working on albums.

The child in the videos, who corrects Hurst's character that the costume is not a costume, has not been identified. However, the mysterious nature of the videos and the upcoming release of "Specter" have fans eagerly awaiting more information about Bad Omens' new music and visuals.
