A School Gym Transforms for a Eurovision-Inspired Musical Extravaganza

Altstädten Primary School is abuzz with activity as preparations commence for a new musical production. Every Monday and Wednesday evening, the building metamorphoses into a rehearsal space for Wir 18, a local Allgäu group working on their latest show—a whimsical take on the Eurovision Song Contest.

Helmut Rothmayr arrives at the school before dawn. By 5:30 a.m., he initiates setting up the gymnasium and basement rooms. His tasks encompass marking the stage, assembling gymnastic bars, wiring instruments, and testing microphones. The sound system comes alive as the space evolves for rehearsals.

The school’s gymnasium remains a hub of activity until opening night. With rehearsals in progress and tickets forthcoming, Wir 18 is poised to present their Eurovision-inspired show to audiences next spring. The performances will signify the culmination of months of preparation and teamwork.
