Downton Abbey Charity Auction Unveils Pieces of Television History

A major charity auction for the beloved period drama, Downton Abbey, is currently underway, offering fans and collectors a unique opportunity to own a piece of television history while supporting a worthy cause. The auction, titled "Downton Abbey - The Auction," is being managed by Bonhams and runs from August 18 to September 16, 2025, at Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street, London.

Key items up for auction include iconic props, costumes, and set pieces from the series. One of the most coveted items is the pale apricot chiffon wedding dress worn by Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Crawley) in her marriage to Matthew, complete with ivory satin shoes, a paste tiara, veil, and bouquet of prop lilies. This exquisite piece is estimated to be worth between £3,000 and £5,000 (€3,500-€5,800).

Another highlight is the 1925 Sunbeam Saloon car, a rare surviving model, which perfectly represents the opulence and elegance of the Downton Abbey universe. The car, driven by the Grantham family, is estimated to be between £25,000 and £35,000 (€29,000-€40,500).

Several iconic dresses from the series are also up for sale, including those worn by Lady Mary, Lady Edith, and Dame Maggie Smith (the Dowager Countess of Grantham). These costumes are estimated to be worth up to 6,000 euros.

In addition to these items, the auction features various props such as hats, shoes, letters, furniture, candlesticks, and cocktail sets. Other notable items include the bell pull, the ebony cane used by Maggie Smith’s character, a production clapperboard, a script signed by the cast, and another 1925 Sunbeam 20/60hp Saloon car.

The auction is open to the public and all proceeds will go directly to Together for Short Lives, a children’s charity. Visitors can admire the costumes, sets, and props for free before the auction at the Bonhams London gallery. Booking tickets in advance is advised.

This event coincides with the release of the third and final Downton Abbey film, offering fans worldwide a chance to relive the drama's history. Whether you're a collector or a fan, this auction presents a unique opportunity to acquire pieces of television history while supporting a charitable cause.
