A Russian craftsman fashioned a Les Paul, known for its melodious tunes, from doughnuts in an inventive approach.
Artem Mayer, a renowned luthier, has created a unique masterpiece that is sure to make your sweet tooth sing - a Les Paul-style electric guitar crafted entirely from glazed donuts.
The guitar, a sight to behold, visually mimics dozens of glazed donuts stacked together, boasting realistic shading, texture, and a glossy glaze. Real sprinkles are embedded on the glazed surface for authenticity, while the neck features artwork complementing the donut theme.
The creation process began by cutting the body shape out of wood, then drilling and chiselling it into rounded donut-like shapes with sloping curves and edges. A doughy base paint layer was applied, followed by hand-painted glazing details. The glaze was finished with quick-setting plastic to replicate the shiny, sticky donut icing, with sprinkles added on top while the plastic was still soft to fix them in place.
The neck and headstock are similarly crafted from wood, with additional artwork such as a hand grabbing a donut. A P-90 pickup and its volume knob have been given a glutinous treatment to blend into the design.
Unique features include a white neck and fretboard, a 12th fret inlay depicting Homer Simpson reaching for a pink, sprinkles-coated donut, and jam filling oozing out of one of the donuts on the side of the guitar's body.
Artem Mayer expressed his satisfaction with the guitar, stating that it looks, sounds, and produces sweet music. He even performed a demo on the donut guitar, showcasing its ability to produce thrash metal riffs and featuring a guitar solo and tapping licks.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Mayer has used food as inspiration for his creations. Last year, he crafted a guitar from McDonald's French Fries. Burls Art, another YouTube luthier, also made headlines last year for creating a copper Telecaster guitar weighing 50lbs, claimed to be the heaviest guitar in the world. Burls Art also built an aquarium guitar, incorporating goldfish into the design of an offset guitar.
Despite its appearance, the donuts are not real but are made through intricate stencilling, drilling, and carving work. The guitar also features locking tuners, ensuring its tuning stability.
In a world where guitars are often associated with rock 'n' roll and rebellion, Mayer's glazed donut guitar is a sweet tribute to the power of music and the boundless creativity of its makers.
