A prospective transfer of Wirtz to Liverpool could be a promising decision.
Bundesliga: Florian Wirtz's Transfer Saga Continues
Munich - The future of Bayer Leverkusen's star midfielder, Florian Wirtz, has gained further momentum with the news that he has been in contact with German national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, regarding his plans.
Nagelsmann, who has coached both Wirtz and Bayern Munich, shared with pay-TV broadcaster Sky on the sidelines of the DFB-Pokal final that they have exchanged messages. While Nagelsmann expressed his best advice to Wirtz, he clarified that he can't make the decision for him. He also reiterated that he hasn't ruled out any clubs and hasn't advised Wirtz to join a specific one.
Recent developments suggest that Wirtz is leaning towards a move to English champions, Liverpool, rather than the German record champions, Bayern Munich. President of Munich, Herbert Hainer, reportedly stated this at a fan festival. However, the Reds are yet to agree on a transfer fee with Leverkusen, with the latter demanding a hefty €150 million. Wirtz's contract with Leverkusen runs until June 30, 2027.
If the transfer to Liverpool materializes, Nagelsmann believes it would be a good step for Wirtz's career, citing the team's cohesive environment and the favorable position Wirtz would have in the team. While Bayern would have also been a suitable choice according to Nagelsmann, the national team coach highlighted that playing together with Jamal Musiala at Bayern would have been beneficial for the national team.
Negotiations are currently underway, with Liverpool making an initial bid exceeding €100 million, which includes add-ons. Both clubs are actively engaged in discussions, with Liverpool aiming to secure Wirtz without breaking their transfer record. The details of a potential swap deal are also being discussed.
Florian Wirtz's potential move could extend beyond the Bundesliga, as he seems to be favoring a transfer to English Premier League champions, Liverpool. European leagues might soon witness the skillful midfielder, should negotiations between Liverpool and his current club, Bayer Leverkusen, yield an agreement that satisfies both parties.
