A Previous Plan for Thunderbolts Involved Introducing Another Familiar Character

In the world of Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU), the absence of Baron Zemo in the film adaptation of Thunderbolts has left many fans wondering about the character's fate.

Despite Baron Zemo's close ties to the Thunderbolts supervillain strike team in the comics, and rumours suggesting his possible inclusion in the movie, Daniel Brühl, who portrays Zemo, has neither confirmed nor denied his involvement in the film.

The writers of Thunderbolts considered various scenarios involving Baron Zemo. One such idea was having Zemo pulling strings from prison, but ultimately, the stories did not align, resulting in his exclusion from the final version. Another early draft of the film saw Zemo returning to his villainous ways, but this too was abandoned.

The focus on Yelena and the introduction of the Bob character made it difficult to include Baron Zemo in Thunderbolts. The writers of the film negated the need for Zemo's involvement with their premise, choosing to take a different direction with the lineup.

In the MCU, Baron Zemo started out as a villain but became more sympathetic, last seen in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier having returned to prison. There is some speculation that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s role could be connected to Zemo, but this remains unconfirmed.

In summary, Baron Zemo was considered or at least rumoured for Thunderbolts, but was ultimately not included in the final version possibly due to Marvel Studios' decision to take another direction with the lineup, and Daniel Brühl has not publicly revealed reasons for his exclusion. The future of Baron Zemo in the MCU remains a mystery, leaving fans eagerly awaiting any official announcements.
