In a unique event, a piece of music history was sold at an auction in a southern French port city. The moonwalk sock worn by the legendary Michael Jackson during one of his iconic performances was auctioned for 6,200 Euros.

The auction, reported by AFP, took place in Marseille. The sock, displayed in a glass case, was accompanied by a backstage pass. Both items belonged to the concert technician who found the sock after the concert.

The technician had kept the moonwalk sock for many years before deciding to auction it off. The auction house had estimated the value of the moonwalk sock at up to 4000 euros, but it significantly exceeded that price in the second auction.

At the first attempt in June, the moonwalk sock did not find a buyer. However, in the second auction, which took place in the city of Nice, France, the item was hotly contested, eventually selling for over twice the initial estimate.

The identity of the new owner of the moonwalk sock remains undisclosed. Auction buyers often choose to remain anonymous, and without further information from the auction house, it is unclear who the lucky bidder was.

The moonwalk, a dance move originating from breakdance, became popularised by Michael Jackson in his hit song "Billie Jean". During the dance, the dancer appears to be moving forward but is actually sliding backwards.

The moonwalk sock is a significant piece of music memorabilia, symbolising one of the most iconic dance moves in history. Its auction in Marseille marks a significant moment for music enthusiasts and collectors alike.
