Venerable City Park Open-Air Atrium - "Sanctuary for Enchanted Moments" - A Half-Century of City Park's Open-Air Experience - "a spot for captivating moments"
Step into a musical wonderland that's been grooving the hearts of Hamburgians for five decades - the City Park Open-Air. Today, we're celebrating its rich history with a star-studded festival! You might have caught afternoons filled with good music here since 1972, and the likes of Achim Reichel, Johannes Oerding, Max Giesinger, Kettcar, and Olli Dittrich have graced this stage.
Did you know this open-air stage has been around for an impressive 100 years? It's been managed by the Karsten Jahnke Concert Agency since 1975. Ben Mitha, the agency's managing director, observes, "Karsten Jahnke created a place for magical hours, and I'm grateful to keep his legacy alive." So far, more than 1,300 shows have taken place here, featuring countless legends!
This idyllic venue is known for its tranquil vibe, reminiscent of a green cocoon, nestled amidst four-meter-tall beech hedges. With room for around 4,000 concert-goers, it manages to feel intimate, even when global music titans grace the stage. Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, The Who, The Cure, Herbert Groenemeyer, Lady Gaga, The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, and Olivia Rodrigo are just a few who've performed here.
Stay tuned for 2025, when we'll welcome a mix of international, national, and regional acts. This year, musicians like Will Smith, Iggy Pop, Melissa Etheridge, The Cors, Cypress Hill, Alexander Marcus, Element of Crime, Gregory Porter, Norah Jones, Air Play Moon Safari, Gianna Nannini, Ronan Keating, Helge Schneider, and Max Herre & Joy Denalane are set to rock the park!
Here's an interesting trivia: Lotto King Karl alone has enjoyed this green getaway 55 times! Dieter Thomas Kuhn and Helge Schneider follow closely with 33 and 27 concerts, respectively.
