Morecambe Football Club Sold to Panjab Warriors

After a tumultuous few months, Morecambe Football Club has finally been sold to Panjab Warriors. The National League officially confirmed and accepted the takeover by Panjab Warriors Ltd, following their Club Compliance and Licensing committee's approval.

The sale was initially agreed upon in principle back in June, but faced several hurdles along the way. The club was suspended from the National League on July 28 due to financial issues, and faced the possibility of closure. However, Panjab Warriors stepped in, providing an interest-free loan of £1.7m to help keep the club afloat.

The EFL had approved a deal with Panjab Warriors in June, but Bond Group, the previous majority shareholder, had expressed concerns and threatened to renege on the deal. Despite this, the sale was completed on August 17, 2025, with Panjab Warriors paying £3.8million to Bond Group.

With the completion of the sale, the suspension of the club has been lifted. However, a transfer embargo remains in place until all outstanding debts, including those owed to players, staff, and HMRC, have been paid. The intended completion date for the sale was July 7, but delays in the process pushed the date back by a month.

Panjab Warriors have promised to bring stability and a positive future to Morecambe Football Club. The club's first game under the new ownership is scheduled for August 23, 2025.

Labour MP Lizzi Collinge, who represents Morecambe and Lunesdale, had previously stated that the club was being held hostage. She will no doubt be relieved to see the sale go through and the club's future secured.

Morecambe's relegation back to the National League after finishing 24th in League Two was a blow to the club and its fans. But with the takeover now complete, there is hope for a brighter future both on and off the pitch.
