New Sports Channel "Sport TV" Launches in Russia

ZAO "Moscow Television" is set to revolutionize the sports broadcasting landscape with the launch of its new channel, "Sport TV". The channel, which begins its test broadcast on August 25, 2025, will primarily focus on delivering high-quality sports content to sports enthusiasts across the nation.

The decision to launch "Sport TV" indicates a shift in focus for ZAO "Moscow Television" towards sports programming. This move comes in response to the need for a dedicated platform for permanent sports broadcasting, as the overall programming grid of their current channel, SCTV, does not permit it.

SCTV has aired major sporting events, such as the Euro-2024 football tournament, and matches from European club tournaments. However, these events will now be moved to "Sport TV" to allow for a more focused and dedicated approach to sports programming.

"Sport TV" will primarily focus on broadcasting leading international tournaments, including football, ice hockey, basketball, tennis, and athletics. The channel will provide comprehensive coverage of Russian and international competitions, as well as key events in Belarusian sport.

The test broadcast for "Sport TV" is scheduled to begin in early October, and will be available nationwide via cable operators. The new channel, "Sport TV", will be a specialized sports platform, marking a new development in the sports broadcasting landscape.

The move to a separate platform for sports content may indicate a strategy to dedicate more resources to sports programming, allowing for improved production values and a more diverse range of events to be covered. The launch of "Sport TV" is a response to the growing demand for dedicated sports content, and aims to cater to sports fans by delivering diverse and high-quality sports content.

Further updates will be provided closer to or after the test broadcast start, as the channel's official communications will provide more detail about flagship events or exclusive broadcasting rights. In the meantime, sports fans can look forward to the launch of "Sport TV" and the promise of improved sports broadcasting in Russia.
