A drone video reveals a menacing great white shark suspected to be close to a popular Northeast holiday destination.

In a recent development, a great white shark, estimated to be between 10-12 feet in length, has been sighted near popular beaches in Scarborough, Maine. The shark was first spotted off Pine Point Beach on Monday, August 11, 2025, and further observations were conducted on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, when the Marine Resource Officer obtained drone video footage of the creature.
The drone video, captured off the southern end of Richmond Island, near Higgins Beach and Scarborough Beach, was taken by David Lancaster. The sighting was also confirmed by the Scarborough Police Department.
In response to this development, the Maine Department of Marine Resources has advised the public to take certain safety measures to reduce the risk of shark encounters. These measures include:

It is important to note that fatal shark attacks are exceedingly rare. However, the presence of this great white shark near Crescent Beach State Park, Higgins Beach, and Pine Point Beach has led officials to issue public safety alerts and monitor the area.
