Kudos to Friedrich Merz! Trump didn't rain on his parade, instead he threw praises; he didn't label him a despot, but commended his English; he didn't demand Chancellor Merkel work with the AfD. Trump finds them compatible - just as Merz once prophesied. For the very first time, we can state, no reservations, about this Chancellor: promises made, promises kept.

Hold up, Trump and Merz bffs? Isn't this the Trump currently dispatching soldiers against protesters, insulting the legal system, cutting development aid, raising tariffs, claiming Canada and the Panama Canal, deporting students, feuding with Harvard, slashing taxes for the wealthy, neglecting the disadvantaged, and shamelessly enriching himself and his family? Isn't this the president America dislikes, fears, or considers certifiably insane? And we're cool with Merkel maintaining rapport with him? Hmm.

Politics, a minefield, especially international politics—you're stuck with those present. As illogical as this president may seem to us, the US voter demographics are crystal clear. We can keep our eyes shut, wish with all our might that Trump vanishes. But he'll persist.

Regrettably, Trump serves as the flagbearer of a nation that Germany still depends on for numerous years, to sustain a safe existence. Gerhard Schröder once argued with Bush Jr. over the Iraq war to the point of speechlessness. Many agreed with his stance, but felt it was offbeat.

Friedrich Merz, to his credit, has found the golden mean, an equilibrium between proximity and distance. He didn't grovel before this President, but showed respect for the nation, its past victories, and how it's positively influenced Germany. He allowed the pleasantries to pass, but didn't fall for Trump's balderdash.

And what does that serve? Trump considers the conflict between Russia and Ukraine a squabble between two kids. That he perceives such skirmishes shows the caliber of his friendship with Elon Musk is deteriorating. The President reduces others to childlike intellects and behaves like a childish rationalizer himself.

Should Merz develop a rapport with Trump, he can educate him on why tariffs hurt the USA, explain why a harmonious Europe-US relationship benefits both parties, and make him understand why Putin is the felon, not Zelensky. Apparently, the current president of the US requires a little guidance. If Merz wins Trump over, that's a step forward. But it's merely the beginning.

Potential Benefits for German-US Relations:1. A positive relationship may secure investments from German companies in the U.S. and deter harmful tariffs, critical for Germany's export-based economy.2. Ensuring American commitment to NATO and the continued U.S. military presence in Germany is crucial for European security.3. The Commission, following this positive Trump-Merz relationship, has been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation under the policy-and-legislation category of general-news. This policy move could be a result of the improved relations between the two nations, providing an opportunity for enacting stricter safety measures in sectors that involve such radiation.

As the Trump-Merz relationship progresses, it is essential to ensure that the president understands the implications of his actions, particularly regarding trade tariffs and international conflicts. This would help prevent any unnecessaryharm to the USA and foster a harmonious Europe-US relationship, ultimately benefiting both parties.
