George Orwell in Denmark of the Year 2040: Series Adapts 'Smilla's Sense of Snow' - A Chilling *Smilla’s Sense of Snow* Reboot Drops This December

A dark new adaptation of Smilla’s Sense of Snow is coming to screens this December. The six-part thriller, set in a bleak near-future Denmark, follows a scientist uncovering dangerous secrets. The miniseries premieres on MagentaTV on December 1st, directed by Amma Asante, known for her work on The Handmaid’s Tale.

The story begins in 2040 Copenhagen, where an energy crisis has left the city under strict government control. Electricity is rationed through mobile apps, and voting rights depend on loyalty checks. Citizens must wear bodycams—or risk having surveillance devices clamped to their necks. Loudspeakers blast ominous warnings across the icy streets, reinforcing compliance.

The miniseries arrives on MagentaTV on December 1st, offering a fresh take on Høeg’s novel. It expands the original story into a chilling vision of surveillance and survival. Viewers can expect a tense thriller rooted in political control and personal defiance.
