'The Tokoloshe': A Chilling South African Horror Thriller

A Chilling Account of Supernatural Mystery: The Tokoloshe in Southern African Lore

Step into a spine-chilling journey with director Jerome Pikwane's latest offering, 'The Tokoloshe'. Showcased at Comic Con Africa, this psychological thriller is set to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

The story unfolds around Busi (played by Petronella Tshuma), a destitute young woman struggling with her emotions, who becomes a cleaner at a rundown Johannesburg hospital. As she copes with the harsh realities of her life and the hospital's corrupt foreman, Busi discovers a terrifying presence lingering within its walls.

A little girl, plagued by an unseen supernatural force, is in grave danger, mirroring the perilous situation Busi found herself in years ago. To save the child, Busi must confront her past demons and the relentless monster that pursues them both.

In the darkest corners of the hospital, Busi uncovers secrets hidden in shadow - AIDS orphans with imaginary friends, hospital workers protecting children from a Tokoloshe, and unnerving sounds lurking in the hospital's cavernous halls.

The film has garnered international interest, as evidenced by its successful runs at the UK's Frightfest, the largest international horror film festival, and the world premiere in South Korea. The universal language of film seems to resonate with audiences, who find both entertainment and relevance in its narrative of a young woman standing against an evil force that has haunted her throughout her life.

The Tokoloshe, a diminutive mythological spirit, is often invoked for evil purposes and is traditionally associated with sexual predation. The movie is produced by Dumi Gumbi and Cati Weinek, with funding from the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and M-Net Movies. It will be distributed by Indigenous Film Distribution and is slated for release on November 2, just in time for Halloween.

As moviegoers anxiously await its release, they can rest assured that this will be a unique blend of South African horror and supernatural thriller, promising a chilling experience for audiences worldwide. Whether you're a fan of psychological horror or discovering new cinematic talents, 'The Tokoloshe' promises to deliver on all fronts.

Stay tuned for more updates and news about this thrilling new addition to the horror genre.
