A Bold Ballet Adaptation of Tainted Blood Premieres in Halle Next Spring

A new ballet adaptation of Borisav Stanković's Serbian classic Tainted Blood will premiere in Halle next spring. The performance, choreographed by Bojana Nenadović, brings the story of Sofka—a woman navigating dignity and self-determination in a patriarchal world—to the stage at the Opera House Halle on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The production will feature live music from the State Orchestra Halle, conducted by Yonatan Cohen. The score draws from compositions by Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Petar Konjović. Vocally, the ballet company will be joined by Kammersängerin Romelia Lichtenstein and soprano Yulia Sokolik.

Halle's Deputy Mayor for Culture and Sport, Dr. Judith Marquardt, is expected to attend the evening performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. The event takes place at the Opera House Halle, located at Universitätsring 24. Nenadović's choreography reimagines Stanković's novel, focusing on Sofka's struggle against societal constraints. The ballet marks a rare adaptation of Serbian literature for a German audience, blending narrative depth with classical and modern musical influences.

The performance offers a fresh interpretation of Tainted Blood, combining literary tradition with contemporary ballet. Tickets will be available for the April 4 show, which highlights both local artistic talent and international musical heritage. The collaboration between choreographer, orchestra, and vocalists aims to deliver a powerful evening of dance and storytelling.
