A 145-year-old restored keyboard takes center stage in historic Amursk concert
A historic 145-year-old keyboard will take centre stage in Amursk, Khabarovsk, on March 11. The C. M. Schröder instrument, built in 1880, has been carefully restored to its former glory. Its rich, resonant sound will fill the venue as part of a special anniversary celebration.
The evening's programme will showcase works by Mozart, Chopin, Scriabin, and Shostakovich. Attendees can expect a mix of solo performances and rare duets for four hands. Accompanist Ira Batrachenko will also share stories behind the music, adding depth to the experience.
Students from the Khabarovsk College of the Arts will join as special guests. Pianists and a flutist from the college will contribute to the main event, highlighting the region's musical talent. The restored keyboard, once silent, now fills guided tours and evenings with its warm, powerful tones.
The celebration marks both the keyboard's long history and its renewed life after restoration. The event will bring together classical compositions, rare duets, and local performers. Organisers hope the evening will honour the instrument's legacy while inspiring future generations of musicians.
