79-year-old former Super Bowl winner, DD Lewis, has passed away.
In a sad turn of events for the world of sports, two notable figures have passed away recently. D.D. Lewis, a former Dallas Cowboys linebacker, and Dale Lolley, a journalist who chronicled the Pittsburgh Steelers for decades, have left a lasting impact on their respective fields.
D.D. Lewis, a standout linebacker at Mississippi State University, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 1968 draft. He went on to play for the Cowboys from 1968 to 1981, a remarkable 14-year career that saw him become a key member of Tom Landry's "Doomsday Defense." Lewis played in 186 games for the Cowboys, a testament to his durability and consistency.
Lewis's professional football journey was marked by several significant achievements. He played in 27 playoff games for Dallas, a franchise record, and had two fumble recoveries in the 1973 season. One of his most notable accomplishments came in Super Bowl XII, where he recorded a sack as the Cowboys defeated the Denver Broncos to claim the championship.
Lewis was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and was named to the Dallas Cowboys' Silver Anniversary Team in 1984, despite never being a Pro Bowler or an All-Pro selection. This recognition underscores the underappreciated nature of his contributions to the team.
One of Lewis's most memorable quotes came about Texas Stadium, where he said, "Texas Stadium has a hole in its roof so God can watch his favourite team play." This quote, rivalling Jimmy Johnson's famous "How 'bout them Cowboys?" has become a cherished part of Cowboys history.
On a different note, Dale Lolley, who chronicled the Pittsburgh Steelers for decades, also passed away at the age of 56. Lolley's work was highly regarded in the sports journalism community, and he will be sorely missed.
Both D.D. Lewis and Dale Lolley leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. Their contributions to their respective fields will continue to inspire future generations.
