76ers, Quentin Grimes Agree to One-Year Deal Amidst Complex Negotiations

The Philadelphia 76ers have made their first formal offer of the offseason, presenting a four-year, $39 million deal to guard Quentin Grimes. However, negotiations have been complex, with Grimes set to enter unrestricted free agency next summer.

Grimes, who averaged a career-high 14.6 points last season, has been a key player for the 76ers since being traded to the team. In his time with Philadelphia, he has averaged an impressive 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Notably, he joined an elite group of guards in Sixers history by averaging 28.5 points in a 10-game stretch, alongside Tyrese Maxey, Allen Iverson, and Hal Greer.

The 76ers' initial offer was met with counterproposals from Grimes' side. They suggested a one-year deal at $17 million, waiving the no-trade clause, or a two-year contract at $34 million with a player option. Both were rejected by the 76ers. The team then presented a one-year, $8.8 million offer, which was $100,000 more than Grimes' qualifying offer but still declined.

The 76ers' drafting of VJ Edgecombe and their recent injury history have influenced their reluctance to offer Grimes a long-term deal. However, Grimes has signed the one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer to return to the team for the 2025-26 season. This deal also gives him the ability to veto all trades during this season.

Quentin Grimes will continue with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2025-26 season, but his future beyond that remains uncertain. His performance this season could significantly impact his value in the upcoming free agency.
