700 Sheep Travel by Ferry to Winter Pasture near Lübeck - 640 Sheep Sail Away After Feasting on Lübeck’s Green Spaces

Around 640 sheep have left Lübeck for their winter quarters after fully grazing the city’s green spaces. The animals travelled by ferry on a three-hour journey led by a shepherdess and her five dogs. The sheep were moved because they had eaten all the available grass in Lübeck. This seasonal relocation has happened before, ensuring the animals have enough food during colder months. Volunteers from a local association will care for the flock until March. They will provide water and shift the sheep to fresh grazing spots on meadows at Gut Brook. The animals are set to return to Lübeck in early spring, once the grass regrows. The ferry trip lasted about three hours, with the shepherdess and her dogs guiding the sheep safely. The move ensures the animals stay fed while allowing Lübeck’s green areas to recover over winter.
