Autobahn bridge control - nearly one in six too fast - 429 drivers caught speeding in just six hours on German motorway

Police in Germany have recorded a shocking number of speeding offences in just six hours on a single stretch of motorway. On Sunday, 429 drivers were caught breaking the limit on the Ueckertal Viaduct along the A20 near Pasewalk. Authorities have since warned that excessive speed remains a major factor in road accidents, particularly in poor weather conditions.

The operation took place on the A20, where the speed limit is set at 80 km/h. Of the drivers checked, around one in six—15.4%—were found to be exceeding the limit. Most faced fines and penalty points, but some committed far more serious violations.

One motorist was recorded travelling at 151 km/h, nearly double the legal speed. This driver now faces a three-month ban, a €900 fine, and two demerit points on their licence. Their name has not been released in public reports. In total, 31 drivers were caught at speeds high enough to trigger a one-month ban. Each of these offenders must pay at least €400 and will also receive two points on their driving record. Police have stressed that such behaviour significantly increases the risk of accidents, especially when conditions are hazardous.

The crackdown highlights the persistent issue of speeding on German roads. With 429 violations in just six hours, authorities have made it clear that penalties will be enforced strictly. Drivers now face fines, licence suspensions, and points for ignoring the limits.
