🚨 Breaking News 🚨
A major incident unfolded at Leer's Borromäus Hospital, where a blaze erupted in the basement, forcing a substantial evacuation. 💰39 patients, including three undergoing intensive care, were swiftly relocated to surrounding facilities in Leer and Emden. 🚑 Other patients were moved to alternative hospital wards or a nearby retirement home. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, thanks to the swift actions of the fire department and hospital staff.

The emergency room of the Catholic hospital was temporarily shut down during the operation, and ambulances were momentarily unable to access the hospital.
Initial reports suggest that a power failure preceding the incident may have played a significant role in the fire. ⚡ It's alleged that an emergency power generator failed to revert to the standard power supply, causing the batteries to overheat and subsequently ignite.
"We struggled to extinguish the battery, which also caught fire. However, we managed to isolate it in the technical room. Unfortunately, the smoke spread across various sections," shared Dominik Janßen, spokesperson for the fire department.
As a result, two wards were immediately evacuated, prompting the establishment of emergency accommodations. Police will carry out further investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the power failure, the misfortune that may have sparked the server room fire.
Approximately 100 emergency services were deployed, with emergency counselors assisting both patients and staff. The evacuated patients returned to their hospital rooms on Monday morning, as the police spokeswoman announced, "Hospital operations are largely back to normal."
