30 Abandoned Chickens Rescued After Being Dumped in Rural British Columbia
Nearly 30 chickens were found abandoned on the side of the road in Enderby, British Columbia, on 15 November 2025. The birds were left in a rural marketplace off Twin Lakes Road, an unusual spot for such an incident. The identity of the person responsible remains unknown.
Local resident Kim Turner discovered the chickens and was shocked by the sight. She was concerned about their safety, given the harsh weather conditions. Turner, along with other residents, sprang into action to rescue the chickens with the help of the Okanagan Humane Society (OHS).
The OHS executive director, Romany Runnalls, believes the chickens were brought to the area and left there. She warns that this type of animal abandonment is becoming increasingly common in the region. Runnalls urges the public not to abandon animals where their safety is at risk. She suggests that if people can no longer care for their animals, they should seek help from organizations like the OHS instead of leaving them to fend for themselves.
The abandoned chickens were rescued thanks to the quick thinking and actions of Enderby residents and the OHS. However, this incident serves as a reminder of the growing issue of animal abandonment in the area. The OHS encourages the public to consider other options and seek help when they can no longer care for their animals.
