25 Million Euro Fine for Car-Sharing Provider Miles
Car-sharing provider Miles has received a €25 million fine from Berlin’s public prosecutor. The penalty follows accusations that the company underpaid parking fees over several years. Authorities claim manual interference disrupted the automatic transmission of fee data between January 2019 and October 2023.
The investigation found that Miles allegedly altered the automatic transfer of parking payments during the specified period. Instead of processing fees correctly, the system was reportedly manipulated, leading to unpaid charges. The exact total of missing payments remains unclear, as does the full scale of the shortfall.
In response, the company has introduced new measures to prevent future violations. Payment processes have been restructured, and control mechanisms expanded to detect irregularities sooner. A dedicated unit, supported by supplier Flowbird, will now monitor parking compliance and ensure fees are paid in full. Miles has accepted the fine without appeal, making the decision final. The company confirmed it has already settled the full amount, closing the legal case.
The €25 million penalty marks the end of the legal dispute over unpaid parking fees. With new oversight systems in place, Miles aims to prevent similar issues from arising again. The case highlights stricter enforcement of parking fee compliance in Berlin’s car-sharing sector.
