New Mayor of Asselfingen is Still a Student - 21-Year-Old Jan Jäckel Becomes Germany’s Youngest Full-Time Mayor After Landslide Win
Asselfingen has chosen a new mayor—21-year-old Jan Jäckel. He won the election with an overwhelming 83.6 percent of the vote, making him Germany's youngest full-time mayor. The small village of 1,000 residents saw a high turnout, with 72 percent of voters casting their ballots.
Jäckel will take office in spring, once he finishes his studies. Until then, he cannot move into the town hall, as he remains a student. There is no requirement for him to hold a specific degree before starting the role.
The current mayor, Armin Bollinger, will leave his position on February 14. Jäckel plans to relocate to Asselfingen or a nearby area with his partner after assuming office.
Asselfingen is known for its strong community spirit and active club life. The municipality is also debt-free, providing a stable foundation for the incoming mayor. Outside politics, Jäckel enjoys endurance sports and is an enthusiastic basketball player.
Jäckel’s landslide victory marks a new chapter for Asselfingen. He will become Germany's youngest full-time mayor when he begins his term. The village now looks ahead to his leadership after Bollinger's departure.
