"War of the Worlds" Swept by Razzie Awards - 2025 Razzies Crown War of the Worlds Remake as Year's Biggest Flop
The 2025 Razzie Awards have once again highlighted the year's most criticised films, with the War of the Worlds remake matching a long-standing record. The annual ceremony, which pokes fun at Hollywood's biggest flops, took place just a day before the Oscars. Over 1,200 voters, including critics and film fans, decided the winners across nine categories.
The remake of War of the Worlds dominated the night, taking home five Razzies—Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor, and Worst Remake. This ties the record set by the original War of the Worlds (2005), which also won five awards, including two for Tom Cruise and one for Steven Spielberg. No film in the past 20 years has exceeded this number.
Rebel Wilson was named Worst Actress for her role in *Bride Hard*, while Scarlet Rose Stallone took Worst Supporting Actress for *Gunslingers*. Ice Cube won Worst Actor for his performance in the *War of the Worlds* remake. Disney's live-action *Snow White* remake also faced criticism, winning two awards: Worst Supporting Actor for the seven dwarves and Worst Screen Combo for Snow White and the dwarves. Meanwhile, Kate Hudson received the Razzie Redeemer Award for her work in *Song Sung Blue*, recognising a standout performance after past missteps. Founded in 1980 by John Wilson, the Razzies continue to serve as a satirical counterpoint to the Academy Awards, celebrating—if that's the right word—the year's least impressive films.
The 2025 Razzies saw War of the Worlds join a small group of films with five wins, a mark unbroken since 2005. Disney's Snow White remake and Rebel Wilson's Bride Hard also drew significant attention for their awards. The ceremony remains a lighthearted but sharp critique of Hollywood's annual disappointments.
