2025 MLB postseason landscape: Baseball standings, forecasts, probabilities as AL West intensifies, wild card tournaments grow chaotic

With less than two weeks left in the 2025 MLB regular season, the race for the postseason is heating up. In the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies are holding onto the top spot in the East division with a record of 91 wins and 62 losses. The Washington Nationals find themselves in fifth place, while the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves are in third and fourth, respectively.

In a surprising turn of events, the Milwaukee Brewers have already clinched a postseason berth, leading the Central division with a record of 93 wins and 59 losses. The Chicago Cubs, who joined the 12-team postseason bracket on Wednesday, are in second place with 88 wins and 64 losses. The Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks are making a September push, holding third and fourth places, respectively.

The National League West is a tight race, with the Los Angeles Dodgers leading the way with 85 wins and 67 losses. The San Diego Padres, who are challenging the Dodgers for the division crown, are in second place with 83 wins and 69 losses. The Colorado Rockies are in last place in the division.

In the wild card race, the Chicago Cubs have a 10-game lead, followed by the San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. The Mets and Giants are currently competing for the final wild card spot.

In the American League, the New York Yankees lead the wild card race with a 2-game lead, followed by the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Texas Rangers, and Kansas City Royals. If the season ended today, the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers would receive byes, with the Yankees and Red Sox holding the Wild Card spots. The Houston Astros and Mariners are neck-and-neck in the American League West.

The 2025 MLB postseason begins on Tuesday, Sept. 30. According to Caesars, the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best odds to win the World Series at +475, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox.

The Wild Card Series in the National League would feature Dodgers vs. Mets and Cubs vs. Padres, while in the American League, it would be Astros vs. Red Sox and Yankees vs. Mariners. The Phillies and Mets have already secured their postseason berths, joining the Brewers.

As the regular season winds down, teams are pushing hard to secure their spots in the postseason. The 2025 MLB postseason is shaping up to be an exciting one.
