Japan Day Fireworks Spectacle Slated for Düsseldorf on May 24

Düsseldorf, Germany, will once again transform its Rheinpromenade and Altstadt into a kaleidoscope of color and cosplay on May 24, 2025, marking the return of Japan-Day. The highlight of the day, the grand Hanami fireworks display, will keep spectators enthralled until sundown.

The fireworks, which will start shortly after darkness falls, around 11 pm, and last approximately 25 minutes, will feature various themes showcased in succession, culminating in a grand finale that includes a shower of 'gold'. The fireworks will be launched from the "other" Rhine bank between the Oberkasseler Bridge and the Rheinknie Bridge. Despite the traditional absence of computer technology, the event will be orchestrated by Fireworks Master Hideki Kubota.

This year's Japanese fireworks in Düsseldorf will adhere to the theme: "Japan erleben – Ein Nachthimmel voller Magie," or "Exploring Japan – A Night Sky Full of Magic." The display aims to illuminate the Düsseldorf night sky, providing a perfect conclusion to Japan-Day 2025. Last year's fireworks were themed "Goldmedaillen und Goldregen über Düsseldorf: Olympischer Glanz von Tokio bis Paris," reflecting the Olympic spirit extended from Tokyo to Paris. In 2023, the display depicted "the Japanese seasons at the Düsseldorf night sky." The enthusiasm for this year's spectacle is mounting.

The Rheinpromenade is typically crowded with spectators, but Oberkassel offers a good alternative viewing spot. From there, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Altstadt and Rheinpromenade. The Rhine bridges, including the Oberkasseler Bridge and the Rheinknie Bridge, offer superb vantage points for the fireworks, although the side views may make it challenging to discern the figures clearly. Nonetheless, the bridges are surely worth a visit.

For those who prefer to avoid the human throng, WDR will broadcast the fireworks live. The transmission begins at 10:25 pm and ends at 11:25 pm, with the option for commentary. If battling through the crowd does not sound appealing, this is an excellent alternative. So, what are you waiting for? Gather your friends and behold the spectacular Hanami fireworks show at Japan-Day in Düsseldorf!
