Enrichment Details

Nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame undergo selection based on their influence on music culture, impact on other artists, and the scope and longevity of their careers and discographies. Several rounds of voting take place, featuring an international panel of over 1,200 music industry professionals, critics, and historians making the final decisions. Established in 1986, the Hall of Fame has honored numerous influential musicians and bands, such as Elvis Presley and Nirvana.

Artists or bands become eligible for nomination 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording. The selection criteria include evaluating an artist's impact on music culture, influence on other musicians, and the scope and longevity of their careers and discographies. The nomination committee chooses the candidates, with the highest number being 16 for the 2020 class. These nominees are sent to an international voting panel, made up of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. This panel evaluates the candidates and votes on who should be inducted. A fan voting process was implemented in 2012, enabling the public to vote online for their preferences. The top five artists selected by the public form a "fans' ballot" that is tallied with the other ballots to determine the inductees. The 2025 inductees will be announced in late April, and the induction ceremony will occur in the fall in Los Angeles.

This thorough selection process ensures a comprehensive representation of various artists' diverse and influential contributions to the music industry.
