"2012-167: Overview of Events Spanning 2012 to 2016"

The NUMEC case, a long-standing enigma in nuclear history, is currently under review at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. This review, initiated by the National Security Council, aims to shed light on the controversial events that unfolded in the late 1970s.

The adjudication of the NUMEC case took place between October 1, 2013, and September 30, 2014, and the appeal adjudication was completed in the fiscal year 2014. The location for both the adjudication and the current review is the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

One of the key documents under scrutiny is the "Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation Materials Unaccounted For" (NUMEC MUF), dated November 27, 1979, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 2. Another significant document is the "Diversion of Nuclear Material to Israel," dated November 6, 1978, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 8. This document is of particular interest as it involves a person associated with the Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation. The uranium diversion linked to Shapiro, who was never convicted, raised suspicions strong enough for former CIA officials to acknowledge the diversion to Israel. However, political reasons prevented it from being publicly confirmed.

Other documents of note include the Action Memorandum for Zbigniew Brzezinski, dated July 29, 1977, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 1, and the "Nuclear MUF," dated August 2, 1977, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 4. The "Israel and MUF" document, dated July 28, 1977, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 3, and the Memorandum for the Attorney General, dated November 20, 1978, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 7, are also being reviewed.

A document titled "AEC Licenses," dated in 1977 and denoted as 2012-167-doc 5, and a document titled "Your Meeting with Carl Duckett," dated November 3, 1978, and denoted as 2012-167-doc 6, are also part of the review process.

The review is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the NUMEC case, a complex chapter in nuclear history that has long been shrouded in mystery. The findings of the review may offer new insights into the events that transpired and the implications they had.
