Famed German rapper and singer, Jan Delay, is set to receive a special honor at the 1Live Krone awards ceremony on November 30. Known for his significant impact on the German music scene, Delay will be recognized for his exceptional work in hip-hop and pop, as announced by WDR radio station 1Live.

Part of the renowned Absolute Beginner combo, Delay released the pioneering album "Bambule" in 1998, setting the stage for an impressive, 25-year-long career. With his distinctively nasal voice and unmistakable style, Delay has left an indelible mark in the German music industry.

Over the years, Delay released several solo albums and branched out into soul, reggae, and funk genres. Hits like "Mercedes-Dance," "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Soul," and "Hammer und Sichel" all ascended to the top of the German album charts, solidifying his status as a star.

The award ceremony, typically held at the Lokschuppen in Bielefeld, will broadcast live on WDR television, 1Live radio, and various streaming platforms on November 30 (8.15 pm). While the music festivities have traditionally taken place in Bochum, the event was put on hold during the Corona years.

Eight additional award categories will be determined by audience voting, with a pool of 30 nominees including rapper Cro, singer-songwriter Nico Santos, hip-hop artist Nina Chuba, and bands Kraftklub and AnnenMayKantereit.

Sending waves through the global music community, Jan Delay's iconic status is undeniable which, combined with his unique sound and distinctive style, has earned him the title of "icon of pop and hip-hop."
