Prepare to be enchanted by our outstanding pianist, Nguyen Viet Trung! Hailing from the bustling city of Hanoi, Nguyen will embark on an epic journey, performing at the prestigious 19th Chopin Competition taking place in Warsaw this October.

Nguyen, with his impressive musical heritage, is the lone representative of our beloved country on the star-studded list.

Our prodigious virtuoso was crafted under the expert guidance of the illustrious Đang Thai Son, a world-renowned pianist who claimed glory at the 10th Chopin Competition back in 1980. Nguyen, now 29, has shown remarkable promise, bagging several accolades such as First Prize at the Emmy Alberg Competition in 2005, the Golden Note Award, and Second Prize at the International Chopin Competition for Young Talents in 2010.

Last year, Nguyen made history by becoming the second Vietnamese pianist to make it to the finals of this celebrated event after more than 40 years, following in the footsteps of another brilliant artist from our nation.

The challenging preliminary rounds of the 19th Chopin Competition concluded on May 4 at the Warsaw Philharmonic. After rigorous day-after-day auditions, the jury, led by Professor Piotr Paleczny, selected 66 pianists, including our very own Nguyen Viet Trung, to return to Warsaw for the competition in less than five months.

Nineteen candidates have been granted direct admission to Stage I of the Competition, with laureates of esteemed piano competitions such as those in Leeds, Tel Aviv, Miami, Bolzano, Hamamatsu, and the Paderewski International Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, as well as the Fryderyk Chopin National Piano Competition in Warsaw, earning their spots.

A staggering 642 pianists from across the globe applied for the competition, which will take place at the turn of 2024 and 2025. Eventually, 162 musicians from 28 nations participated in the preliminaries.

The official commencement of the 19th Chopin Competition is scheduled for October 2, with the auditions beginning the following day and continuing until October 20. The competition will culminate in an awards gala and a concert by the laureates on October 21 at the Great Theatre-National Opera. The victor will be awarded a gold medal and a sizeable first prize of 60,000 euros (US$69,000).

Following the competition's conclusion, a marathon concert tour will commence, where the winners will grace prestigious concert halls across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. This tour, arranged by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in partnership with the Liu Kotow agency, will give audiences an unforgettable musical experience.

The International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, inaugurated in 1927, is one of the oldest music events of its kind on our planet. It gathers every five years to celebrate and venerate Polish composer and piano virtuoso Frederic Chopin.

Intriguingly, Nguyen Viet Trung recently commanded our nation's attention during a landmark concert by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra on April 21, 2025, at the Hanoi Opera House. This event was part of a nationwide celebration marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's national reunification[2][3][5].

While additional information regarding Nguyen's background or educational journey relating to the Chopin Competition is not readily available, his notable participation in Vietnamese cultural events indicates an exceptional level of proficiency in his craft.
