172 skirmishes reported by Ukraine in the past day
In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, intense military engagements and diplomatic stalemates continue to dominate the landscape.
Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that nearly 20,000 Russian soldiers have died this month and Russia has lost 112,500 soldiers since the beginning of the year in the conflict in Ukraine. These startling figures highlight the devastating toll the war has taken on both sides.
Russia's aggressive campaign includes large-scale drone and missile attacks primarily targeting Ukrainian civilian areas and infrastructure. According to reports, Russian forces are close to completing the seizure of the city of Chassiv Yar, enabling new offensive avenues.
Russia's drone swarm tactics have evolved to overcome Ukrainian air defenses, with a hit rate of about 20% now, compared to less than 10% earlier in the war. This strategy aims to saturate and exhaust Ukraine's interceptor resources and air defense systems.
Ukrainian forces have also conducted their own aerial and naval drone strikes against Russian facilities, such as Novorossiysk in Krasnodar Krai.
Diplomatic efforts for peace continue to face obstacles. US President Donald Trump has pushed for a ceasefire agreement to be achieved by August 8, 2025, threatening increased tariffs and other measures on Russia if no progress occurs. However, Russia rejects such calls and sustains its aggressive campaign.
The Baltic state is also seeking an explanation for a drone incident from Belarus, while Lithuania has delivered a protest note to the authoritarian leadership in Minsk and is stationing additional troops and air defense capabilities at the border with Belarus in response to the drone incident.
The conflict remains highly active and violent, with Russia applying increasing pressure through massive drone and missile salvoes to wear down Ukrainian defenses while Ukraine conducts limited counterstrikes. The situation on the ground includes territorial gains for Russia and heavy civilian impacts in Ukraine.
In addition to the military and diplomatic aspects, the conflict has also resulted in civilian casualties. At least three people were killed and ten injured in a Russian attack on a residential area in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk. In the Russian region of Belgorod, two men were killed in a drone strike, which authorities describe as a Ukrainian terrorist attack.
International diplomatic efforts strive for a ceasefire, but currently, they remain unresolved. As the conflict continues, the hope for peace and a resolution to the violence remains elusive.
