Mia Sophie Lietke, a promising 16-year-old rhythmic gymnast from Germany, tragically passed away unforeseen and unexpectedly. The devastating news was announced by Swabian Gymnastics Federation, leaving many in shock and grief.

The much-admired junior gymnast from Berlin, who later relocated to the national base in Baden-Württemberg at Fellbach-Schmiden, was found deceased at the training facility. The German Gymnastics Federation confirmed the unexpected occurrence. The cause of her sudden demise remains undisclosed as per the current media reports, with investigations still underway. Mia was widely known for her vibrant and open personality and had the ambition to represent Germany at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Her popularity and admiration grew when she was named 'Junior Athlete of the Month' in Berlin in June 2021. In 2022, she bagged the German junior championship in hoop and won silver in the all-around. Despite her relocation, she continued to compete for Berlin TSC.

Great sadness and sympathy swept over the gymnastics community upon knowing about Mia's untimely demise. Former Olympic participant and 26-time German champion, Magdalena Brzeska, was stunned and overwhelmed by the tragic news. "She was one of my first athletes when I came to Ulm," Brzeska revealed to BZ, "Her goal was to reach the Olympics, and I am convinced that she would have achieved it too. My heart goes out to her family in this difficult time, it's a terrible story."

Darja Varfolomeev, a training colleague at Fellbach-Schmiden, expressed her feelings on Instagram. "You will always remain in our hearts," she wrote, accompanied by a photograph of Mia, "as a truly wonderful girl."

Berlin TSC, the club with whom Mia collaborated in the national league, expressed their dismay on their official website. "We will miss her tenacious, jubilant nature and her presence on and off the RSG carpet. Although she will always be a memento and memory with us, our deepest sympathies go out to Mia's family, friends, and loved ones."
