Hurray for Faster Commutes! 🌍🚗
Tangerhütte, Saxony-Anhalt - If you're in a hurry, you've gotta be patient, pal. That's the rule for dreaming of a new highway. The northern A14 stretch from Magdeburg to Schwerin, the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, fits this bill.
Just under 98 kilometers of this 155-kilometer wonder traverses Saxony-Anhalt. By December 14, almost 29 kilometers will be ready to skate – from Tangerhütte to Lüderitz junctions (both in the Stendal district).
11 Million Euros Per Mile 💸
Construction began on August 27, 2018. Originally budgeted for 125 million euros, this 170 million euro project adds up to over 11 million euros per kilometer. Talk about pricey pavement!

Turn those rolling hills into sky-high speeds! When tires touch where fields and commercial forests used to dance, it's a toughie. Tino Möhring, German Highway Conundrum Specialist from the eastern branch of Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, shares the struggle: "The damp terrain of Tangerlowlands makes this journey quite the challenge."
Time to Tango with Wolmirstedt! 🕺♀️
The 97-kilometer stretch between Wolmirstedt (Börde district) and Lüderitz will be ready for revelers from mid-December. The fun just keeps rollin' with the 14.83-kilometer first bit from Dahlenwarsleben (Börde district) still under construction!
Construction woes continue between Lüderitz and Stendal-Mitte, but a glimmer of hope surfaces: the predicted 2025 unveiling!
Archaeological digs galore and survey sites ensue on all other A14 sections, while the Elbe bridge near Wittenberge enters the state border with Brandenburg. Your guess is as good as mine, travel mate, about when the buffet from Magdeburg to Schwerin will open its gates.

- Project budget troubles aren't new. Fluctuating material prices, unexpected labor costs, delayed construction periods, and environmental issues are just a few reasons why infrastructural budgets often go askew. Trim, adapt, or twiddle your thumbs until the data dances again!
