"100,000 Individuals Sign Up for Protest Against Conservative Extremists"
On Saturday, a large demonstration is set to take place in Berlin, continuing the protest that occurred two weeks ago. The event, scheduled for 13:00, is being organised under the motto "We are the firewall".
The upcoming demonstration is a response to the AfD's plans for "Remigration", which involves the mass deportation of foreigners from Germany. This demonstration follows a similar event two weeks ago, where approximately 350,000 people gathered in Berlin to voice their opposition to the AfD. The size of the upcoming demonstration could be similar to or even larger than the previous one, with expectations of around 100,000 people participating.
The demonstration will see a massive human chain formed at the Reichstag building, symbolising the people's united stand against the far-right. This protest is a clear message that when institutions and political parties fail, it is up to the people to stand up against right-wing extremism.
In 2018, Thomas Haldenwang led the Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution). Haldenwang and his organisation have labelled as right-wing extremists those groups that are classified as extreme right. Recently, Hans-Georg Maaßen, who ran Germany's state security service until 2018, was named as a right-wing extremist by the organisation over which he presided.
It is worth noting that CDU members have been present at meetings with far-right figures, including an event in Potsdam. This has sparked concerns and added fuel to the fire of the ongoing protests against the far-right.
The statement published by the organisers of the protest reads: "In Germany, the political landscape is developing alarmingly: right-wing and right-wing extremist views are gaining public support... Join the firewall against the right!". The organisers aim to demonstrate that the people of Germany will not stand by idly as right-wing extremism gains traction.
The demonstration on Saturday aims to act as a firewall against the far-right, continuing the fight against extremist ideologies that threaten the fabric of German society. The people of Berlin and beyond are encouraged to join this movement and stand together against right-wing extremism.
