Hangin' It Up: Titz Bails on Magdeburg for Hannover 96
Sayonara, Titz! The 54-year-old coach is outta here, trading the banks of the Elbe for the bustling streets of Hannover. You guessed it—he's taking over the reigns at Hannover 96. His loyal number two, André Kilian, is following suit. The power duo has quit Magdeburg's ranks.
These two aren't strangers to teamwork. They've been ramblin' together since their days at Rot-Weiss Essen, Hamburger SV, and FC Homburg. And when they joined forces at Magdeburg, they walked into a tough sportin' scenario. The team had Cycle 3 participants sneerin' at 'em, with a mere 24 points from 23 games, teetering on the brink of relegation to Regionalliga. But the boys persevered, going on an 11-game unbeaten streak (9 wins and 2 draws) to secure their spot in the 3rd Liga.
Winning the 2021/22 season's 3rd Liga championship and securing promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, the team owed their victory on matchday 35 to a 3-0 win over Zwickau. But it was the following two seasons under the guidance of sportin' director Otmar Schork and coach Christian Titz (with sub Andre Kilian) that notched worthy achievements. They nabbed early 2. Bundesliga survival, finishin' last season in 5th place with 53 points.
Christian Titz oversaw a whopping 168 competitive matches for FCM, baggin' 76 wins, 38 draws, and 54 losses.
Sportin' director Otmar Schork swung a heartfelt farewell:
"Christian Titz and André Kilian's time with us was filled with a China-wall-level intensity and buckets of sportin' triumph. Together, we left a triumphant mark on the FCM. Their unity and unwavering spirit helped us sail through rough phases and maintain a steady course towards success. We wish 'em a load of luck in their future exploits."
So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, guys! Good luck with Hannover. And hello, Coach Fiedler! The new kid on the Magdeburg block, zipping in from Stuttgart reserves, is ready to take charge ahead of the upcoming Season.
